Just bought your Galaxy S8? Excited to get started with the most beautiful phone ever? Wait!! Before you get to tweaking things get to know the security that the beast in your pocket has to offer. Here are 5 Security features offered by Samsung galaxy S8.
5 Ways of Unlocking Samsung Galaxy S8
Samsung Galaxy S8 was launched recently with some of the coolest features we saw. The phone features some amazing unlocking features apart from the usual ones. Below are the 5 ways you can unlock your Samsung Galaxy S8:
1. IRIS Scanner
Galaxy S8 has introduced an Iris scanning method. It uses special sensors on the front of the phone to identify you and unlock the device. It’s believed Biometric methods are the most secure methods as compared to others. You can use it for almost anything, from unlocking your device to validate purchases with Samsung Pay.
2. FACE Detection
The newest method of unlocking the S8 is Samsung’s new Face Unlock feature (don’t confuse with the face unlocking feature in Android since 2011). This method uses the front-facing camera to identify you and unlock the device. It’s designed in the most atypical ways and so, cannot be used to authenticate Samsung Pay Purchases.
Recent tests show this method was the slowest and least reliable way to unlock the S8. Despite sounding the coolest method of unlocking Samsung Galaxy S8, it actually refused to work through the majority of the time. It would not identify the face in some random light configurations. However, an awkward staring at the phone might result in it in unlocking, pretty unreliable, isn’t it? To add, it appears that the most “reliable” unlocking feature can be abused by putting a photograph of the owner in front of the camera.
3. PIN CODE / PASSWORD Protection
You can use a four-digit PIN code or alphanumeric password to unlock the S8 or with any other smartphone. These are the most secure but at the same time, they’re most inconvenient methods to use. No matter how many times you unlock your phone, you will be tiresome to type in a PIN or worse, a password, every time.
4. PATTERN LOCK
Galaxy S8 also supports the standard edition Android pattern unlock method (whereby you trace a particular line you set through a grid of nine dots). It is the most commonly used way of unlocking android phones by their users. Why? Because it’s more convenient to swipe a code than to type it. Considered one of the more secure methods to protect the information on your device, it actually is not on the top list.
The Galaxy S8 does have a fingerprint scanner which lets you secure and unlock your device in a stylized and quicker way. Unlike other devices, such as the Google Pixel, you put the scanner in the middle of the phone where your index finger naturally rests.
The S8’s scanner is high up on the back of the device and not in the middle. You can feel it while holding. It can be difficult to reach, especially with the larger S8 Plus, and worse if you have to move your index finger to cover it.
