In some interesting turn of events, Microsoft today announced Windows 10 Creators Update which is available in the Release Preview Ring. The company also included that unsupported Windows phones can update to Creators update via release preview ring.
The note was made in a post in Feedback Hub.
If you are a Windows Insider on an unsupported device, you can stay on the Windows 10 Creators Update and receive Cumulative Updates via the Release Preview ring. However, you do so at your own risk as it’s unsupported. If you are on one of these unsupported devices and in the Fast or Slow ring, you will need to switch to the Release Preview ring via Settings > Update & security > Windows Insider Program.
We know that many Insiders are disappointed to see their device is no longer supported. We looked at feedback from our Windows Insiders and realized that we would not be able to provide the best possible experience for our customers on many of these older devices. That helped us determine which devices we support for the Windows 10 Creators Update. We are continually listening to your feedback to provide the best experience for ALL of our customers.
Though the list of devices is very small and includes only newer phones like-
- HP Elite x3
- Microsoft Lumia 550
- Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL
- Microsoft Lumia 650
- Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
- Alcatel IDOL 4S
- Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
- SoftBank 503LV
- VAIO Phone Biz
- MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601
- Trinity NuAns NEO
It is positive that Windows still remembers it’s old customers.
