YouTube recently launched a new application for children visiting the most used video platform. The new YouTube Kids is auto-filtered for kids which prevents from stumbling into the wrong stuff. Although the application was launched for only mobile phones, it is now available for smart TVs, including the LG, Sony and Samsung TVs.
YouTube Kids for Smart TVs after Android
The YouTube Kids on TVs allows children to access filtered videos using the in-built “casting” feature from the app. The app is available to the following:
- All Samsung Smart TVs (2013-2017)
- Blu-ray players with the Samsung App Store
- All 2015-2017 LG webOS TVs
- 2016-2017 Sony TVs (via a firmware update)
- Android TV support is yet to come
The aim of YouTube Kids is clear, provide more of educational and engaging content for children through their largest video platform. To keep children away from adult content, exposure to mature stuff is prevented using the filters set by the YouTube algorithm.
The working algorithm of YouTube Kids is still contradictory, as the BBC and Consumer Watchdogs Group reported. Moreover, the app requires parents to monitor the flow of content and spot any mischievous contents.
Conclusively, it is somewhat acceptable app but not even near close the Netflix’s Kids section. Further support for iOS, Android and ChromeCast can be added by little tweaks in the TV. If you do find a complaint regarding the YouTube app, do not forget to report it.
